What is an Allotment?

Definition:

The distribution of equity when new shares are issued and allocated to either new or existing shareholders. Refers particularly to shares granted to participating Underwriters during an IPO. In the United Kingdom and certain other jurisdictions, allotment is referred to as allocation.
